Research

The different areas of reserach are centered around the goal to simplify the development of embedded systems. This means to minimize the amount of detail knowledge that a developer needs to know and thus, we want to increase the level of abstraction on which developers can work.

Technology wise, we concentrate on the use of FPGAs or, more broadly speaking, the use of reconfigurable technologies.

Research topics

 • FPGA based System-on-Chip Development Systems
FPGAs of reasonable size have become so cheap over the last years that they can now be considered to implement System-on-chip (SoC). To support this type of usage, we have developed a special SoC-kit, which is particularly suited to FPGAs and uses a native word size of 18 bit.
• Microarchitectures for Adaptive Processors
In the course of the AMIDAR research project, we investigate microarchitectures that support the dynamic adaption of the processor at runtime.
 • Debugging and Validation of Embedded Systems
Modern microcontrollers contain special interfaces that allow to observe internal states and events. These interfaces deliver a huge amount of data (GB/s). Todays tools usually only offer to record this data and analyze it offline. In contrast, we design reconfigurable architectures thart allow to analyze this data on the fly while the system is running.
